SENIOR MANAGEMENT

Our key staff members jointly own United Housing Management. Each member of our ownership team has 20 years of professional service in either management of affordable housing and/or development of affordable housing.

John StrodderJohn Strodder, General Manager

As General Manager, John is responsible for overseeing the management division, the multi-family development division and the commercial division.

John graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1979 and began his career in housing management with the National Corporation Housing Partnership (NHCP) where he began as a management trainee in 1983 and grew to be a senior property manager overseeing a portfolio of properties for NCHP here in Massachusetts.

In 1987 he joined Long Bay Management Company as the Director of Operations. From 1996 to 2002, he was the General Manager overseeing a portfolio of 1,400 units and 100,000 square feet of commercial retail and office space.

John was chosen by his fellow partners to be the General Manager because they knew they could rely upon his long experience, the professional respect he commands from public agencies, and his personal dedication to the Residents to making a positive difference in the lives of the families residing throughout the company’s portfolio of affordable housing.

Robert GundersonRobert Gundersen, General Counsel

As General Counsel, Robert provides advice and guidance to our employees in carrying out their daily business of serving our residents. Robert’s knowledge of the law and of business can simplify the decision-making process and help to protect our company, its employees and most importantly, our residents.

Robert graduated from Boston College in 1965 and Boston College Law School in 1968, and he was admitted to practice law that year. He began his affordable housing career first with the Boston Redevelopment Authority then with Boston Lawyers for Housing.

Robert then entered private law practice where for the next 30 years he focused upon housing development law, with emphasis in the development of new or substantially rehabilitated affordable housing, assisted under one or more of the state and federal housing programs. He provided legal services and advice to both non-profit community development corporations and to private, for-profit developers. Robert has helped to create many non-profit rental and housing cooperative developments in the Cambridge, North Andover and in Boston. BACK TO TOP

Otis GatesOtis Gates, Chief Financial Officer

As the Chief Financial Officer of our company, Otis is responsible for overseeing all the functions for the financial planning, operation and development of all the properties owned or managed by our company.

Otis grew up in Roxbury and graduated from both Harvard College and Harvard School of Business. In 1968, he began his career in information systems with Andersen Consulting (now Accenture); he became a partner in 1976, specializing in development of financial control and operating systems in retail and banking industries.

In 1985, Otis began to develop both commercial and residential real estate. His first project was Concord Place, a 55,000 square foot historic renovation of office and retail space in downtown Framingham. In 1987, Otis acted as the project manager for a joint venture between the Minority Development and Education Association and the Quincy Geneva Community Development Corporation, which developed and built the Brooks School Project, a 56 unit affordable housing development in Dorchester. James MarchioneJames Marchione, Comptroller

As the comptroller of our company, James is responsible for overseeing all of the functions of the accounting department and supervising its staff. Our accounting department is responsible for recording all rental income collections and deposits, for maintaining accurate records of all disbursements of all operating funds from each segregated trust accounts for multiple owners, for maintaining internal controls, complying with all governmental regulations, and for complying with all mortgagee and owner requirements, as well as providing accurate, up-to-date reports to management and owners.

James graduated from Northeastern University in 1977 where he majored in accounting. He began his professional career in accounting at Laventhol & Horwath where he was a senior auditor. In 1980 he became a Certified Public Accountant. Later, James joined Winn Management Company as Assistant to the Chief Financial Officer; then he was Comptroller for McNeil & Associates, Inc., and Long Bay Management Company. BACK TO TOP

Shelia HarperShelia Harper, Director of Compliance and Training

As the Director of Compliance and Training, Sheila’s role is critically important. As our company’s compliance officer, Sheila reviews and approves resident files to assure full compliance with state and federal regulations. She also assumed responsibility for training all of the staff about the appropriate procedures for maintaining compliance, preparing for property management reviews and management operating reviews by lenders and mortgage insurers.

Sheila’s depth of experience and education ensures that all of the government regulations have been followed. Sheila is certified as a Credit Compliance Professional by Spectrum Enterprises at level C12P. Sheila graduated from Fisher Junior College in 1980. She began her career in housing management in 1986 as a Property Manager where she rapidly rose to become the Director of Operations where she assumed responsibility for supervising all of the other property managers. She has previously assumed responsibility for the relocation department that serviced the relocation of 385 families under a contract with MassHousing and HUD. BACK TO TOP

Jonathan “Kevin” BynoeJonathan “Kevin” Bynoe, Senior Portfolio Manager

As the Regional Manager, Kevin is the person to whom all of the central office Property Managers and the Director of Maintenance report.

Kevin’s career in affordable housing began while still in high school as a construction laborer. He began his professional career in the housing industry in 1987. Kevin has steadily progressed over the years beginning his career as a Maintenance Supervisor and moving up through the ranks as an Assistant Property Manager, Property Manager, Senior Property Manager and currently as a Regional Manager.

Kevin attended Central State University where he majored in Management. He has received his RHM, designation from the National Center for Housing Management, his Low Income Housing Tax Credit certification from Spectrum, (the Massachusetts State LIHTC qualifying agent) and completed the Minority Property Management Executive program at MIT. Kevin is currently a member of the Children’s Hospital Clinical Investigation Committee Institutional Review Board. BACK TO TOP

Patricia FarrPatricia Farr, Director of Human Resources

As the Director of Human Resources, Pat is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the business relationship between our company and each of our employees, providing information and training about our company policies, procedures, benefits, compensation and insurance. Pat skillfully and thoughtfully mediates disputes that occasionally arise between our employees.

Pat was born and raised in Jamaica, West Indies. When Pat immigrated to the United States in 1977, she attended Roxbury Community College and where she received a degree in business administration in 1979. She pursued her education by attending courses in real estate finance and management at Boston University, as well as completing the Minority Developer Executive Program at M.I.T., and attending various human resource management programs at Northeastern University.

Pat began her business career in 1979, first as an administrative assistant, then Office Manager, and then she began her career as the Director of Human Resources in a smaller management company. BACK TO TOP

Compton JonesCompton Jones, Director of Maintenance

As the Director of Maintenance, Compton is responsible for maintenance programs and activities carried on by our company; he is responsible for the maintenance of the physical plant of all the managed properties and supervises and directs all of the maintenance personnel.

Compton began his business career working as a Technical Specialist at Polaroid Corporation, principally testing and calibrating testing and manufacturing equipment. In 1974, he graduated from Franklin Institute earning an associates degree in electrical engineering. In 1976, Compton graduated from Northeastern University, majoring in industrial technology, and the following year, 1977, he earned his masters degree in business administration from Suffolk University. After graduation, Compton was employed in Guyana and worked as the manager of the engineering division of the Guyana Rice Milling and Marketing Authority where he supervised all the civil, mechanical, mill, project and electrical engineers for the authority.

In 1990, Compton returned to the United States and became the Director of Property Maintenance. He is a Certified Manager of Maintenance under the National Center of Housing Management. BACK TO TOP
